The Democratic Republic of Congo defeated Jamaica 1-0 in the match played this Tuesday at the Chivas Stadium in Mexico, in the final round of the qualifying playoff for the 2026 World Cup. According to the Argentine News Agency, the only goal for the African team's victory was scored by defender Axel Tuanzebe in the tenth minute of extra time. With this win, the Congolese team qualified for the tournament to be held in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, marking their second World Cup in history, having participated in the 1974 World Cup in Germany under the name of Zaire, imposed by dictator Mobutu Sese Seko. Thus, the African team will share Group K with Portugal, Colombia, and Uzbekistan.
