The Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, announced the continuation of Formula 1 in the country after the 2024 Mexico Grand Prix. F1 returned to Mexican territory with the Mexico Grand Prix in 2015, and the contract originally ended in 2025, creating uncertainty among fans. After confirming the renewal of the event, Brugada emphasized the importance of keeping F1 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez each year, as it promotes Mexico City on an international level.
"Regarding Formula 1, I declared that it is in our interest for it to continue every year in Mexico City because it puts CDMX in the global spotlight, and the City is valued as one of the best organizers worldwide," the official mentioned at a press conference. Furthermore, she highlighted that F1 not only attracts global attention to the country but also leaves a significant economic impact and promotes tourist and economic growth in the city.
The success of the Grand Prix in Mexico is reflected in record attendance figures, with more than 400,000 people gathered at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in 2024. It is noteworthy that the event takes place annually, except for the year 2020 due to the pandemic. The outstanding presence of Sergio Checo Pérez in Formula 1 has greatly contributed to the rise of motorsport in the country, solidifying Mexico as a prominent spot on the F1 calendar.
