Condemnation of Violence in Football Matches

The Mexican Football Federation condemned the behavior of Honduran fans who threw objects onto the field at the end of the Nations League match, resulting in the injury of coach Javier Aguirre. After the game, which ended with a 2-0 victory for Honduras, Aguirre approached to greet Colombian Reinaldo Rueda when an object thrown from the stands hit the Mexican coach on the head, leaving him with a bleeding wound.

Hours after the attack, Aguirre appeared at a press conference with the bleeding under control and downplayed the incident, highlighting the cleanliness of the game. He stated: 'The flow of the match was clean. They deserved to win, I have no choice but to congratulate them, trying to uplift the spirit of a team, the other seems irrelevant to me.'

The Mexican Football Federation issued a statement expressing its firm rejection of any form of violence in football and reiterating its commitment to the safety of everyone involved in the sport. In the message, a call was made to all football stakeholders, including institutions, executives, players, fans, and the media, to collaborate in creating a safe environment for all future events.

Aguirre concluded by saying: 'I am not one to complain. As for the other things, I won’t even mention them.'
