The Rich History of Atlante Football Club

Atlante is known for being a historic team in Mexican football that has had its ups and downs over the years. Some notable figures who were part of its squad in different eras include José Guadalupe 'el Profe' Cruz, Miguel Herrera, Daniel Guzmán, and Raúl 'El Potro' Gutiérrez, among others. With a solid base of players, Atlante managed to qualify for the final phase in the first four editions of the short tournaments, being a regular protagonist in the Mexican championship.

After its return to the top division, Atlante hired Ricardo La Volpe as manager, and in the 1991-92 season, it finished as the competition leader with 50 points, achieving a unique feat by topping the championship as a newly promoted team. However, a streak of poor tournaments brought them close to another relegation at the beginning of the new millennium.

Throughout its history, Atlante has had moments of success and difficult times. Despite finishing last in the percentage table of the Verano 2021 tournament, a decision by the Mexican League allowed the team to avoid relegation by expanding the championship from 18 to 20 teams, which led them to play a promotion match against the Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz.

In the Apertura 2007, Atlante managed to become champions and achieved success at the international level. This allowed for a restructuring of the team and the consolidation of players like Miguel Herrera and José Guadalupe Cruz, who restored Atlante to its position as a respected rival. During that time, the team was a frequent participant in the liguilla, reaching the semifinals on several occasions.

Over the years, Atlante has experienced changes of ownership, moves of headquarters, and moments of economic crisis that have affected its performance on the field. However, the team has managed to remain competitive and has been a worthy competitor in the Liga de Expansión. Despite facing challenges and difficulties, Atlante remains an iconic team in Mexican football with a rich history and a base of loyal fans.
