In the municipality of Mezquitic, the Wixaritari communities of San Andrés Cohamiata and San Miguel Huaixtita were the first to receive support under the Brigades for Jalisco initiative by the State Government, which aims to bring services to restore the rights of the indigenous population.
In this initiative, DIF Jalisco delivered 700 electric heaters, 1,400 blankets, and 700 food packages in both localities. Additionally, the birth of 183 children aged between zero and six years was recorded, and 1,800 free birth certificates were distributed.
The activities in the Northern Zone of the state were led by Maye Villa de Lemus, President of the DIF Jalisco System, and Diana Vargas Salomón, General Director of the Welfare Organization. During the visit, the needs of the communities were assessed.
Maye Villa emphasized the commitment that the DIF Jalisco System will have a presence in the Wixárika territory over the next six years to assist those who need it most. "We will ensure that these brigades involve more state dependencies to reach all of you, count on us," she expressed.
In addition to the support provided by DIF Jalisco, the Jalisco Health Secretariat offered services such as enrollment in the Jalisco Health Insurance, medical consultations, distribution of free medications, nutritional assessments, vaccination updates, and pet sterilizations, among others.
During the event, consultations were also provided by the Jalisco State Human Rights Commission and the Commission of the Justice Center for Women. The working tour included the presence of various local authorities and representatives of the Traditional Government of both communities.
