High temperatures, low relative humidity, and strong wind gusts are mainly affecting Monterrey and its metropolitan area, as well as the northern, southern, and citrus regions. For this reason, precautions are urged, according to Cavazos, director of Civil Protection of Nuevo León. These conditions will prevail especially on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with Friday projected as the hottest day.
"On Sunday, we could experience a decrease in temperatures, reaching between 28 and 30 degrees. Friday will be the peak of heat, which will generate an alert for possible fires in grasslands and forests," explained Cavazos. The 30-30-30 rule is expected, with winds exceeding 30 km/h, temperatures of 30 degrees or more, and humidity of 30% or less, which increases the risk of fires.
The extended forecast details that unusual temperatures of up to 40 degrees are expected, along with winds of up to 80 km/h, during Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. These conditions will considerably increase the chances of fires, so it is recommended to remain alert and take precautions.
The Civil Protection authorities of Nuevo León will be closely monitoring the situation and issuing relevant updates. The population is called upon to avoid activities that could provoke fires, such as bonfires, burning trash, and throwing cigarette butts or glass bottles. Cold front number 34 will increase temperatures, so it is crucial to stay alert and follow safety guidelines.
Citizens are reminded of the importance of staying hydrated, especially in high-temperature conditions, and to protect themselves from the sun if they need to go outside, using sunscreen, hats or caps, and light long-sleeve clothing. It is also advisable to avoid sun exposure during peak hours, from 12:00 to 16:00, to prevent heat strokes.
On his part, Alejandro Zúñiga, the director of Operations of the Firefighters of Nuevo León, confirmed that the probabilities of fires are extremely high during these days. In case of any incident, one can report to the emergency number 911 for immediate assistance. Protecting vulnerable groups such as babies, children, the elderly, and pets is essential in these circumstances.
