The mayor of Monterrey, Adrián de la Garza, compared the current figures of perceived insecurity in the city with those from the previous three-year term under the leadership of Luis Donaldo Colosio. According to De la Garza, in his first quarter of management, there is no significant concern regarding this matter. In this regard, he mentioned that the Secretariat of National Defense requested him to replicate an operation as president of the Association of Mayors of Nuevo León, an effort in which all mayors who are members of the association participated, as well as some who are not. The main objective of this initiative was to reduce homicides in the region.
In response to questions from councilor Roberto Gallardo regarding the results presented by the National Security Survey of INEGI, De la Garza asked not to focus solely on citizen perception or isolated figures. The mayor stated that there have been quarters with insecurity perceptions of 71%, 72%, and even 73%, but there have also been other periods in which this perception decreased. According to him, if an analysis is conducted taking into account the different quarters and an average is calculated, a perception of 68% is obtained, which coincides with the latest analysis from September to December, which indicated 69%.
He also highlighted that he is maintaining coordination with federal agencies on security matters to carry out joint operations and that, as a result, femicide and other key crimes have reduced in the city.
