Bolivian Fans in Mexico Celebrate Team's Victory

Among typical Bolivian dishes, regional music from Nuevo León, tacos, cabrito, tostadas, and cornbread, a group of Bolivians celebrated in advance their national team's victory over Iraq. The playoff match that will determine the last team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup is being played tonight at 21:00 at the BBVA Stadium. Enthusiastic, though nervous, fans of the South American team spent their hours in Guadalupe's Main Plaza. Some arrived last week when Bolivia faced Suriname; others have been in the Nuevo León lands since Monday, and some had practically just gotten off the plane. In the Main Plaza, the Municipal Government set up a giant screen for those who couldn't get a ticket to watch the match. Around 19:00, the arrival of three buses with Bolivians from Monterrey International Airport was expected. Among the Bolivian fans was a couple, half South American, half 'Regia'. Edwin and Alma met in Monterrey when he came to study. They married in 1988 and have been together ever since, especially now as it is a crucial moment for their country's football. 'We met and got married, I came to study... we've been together for 37 years,' said Edwin while enjoying a Bolivian empanada filled with meat. Jeanet, born in Bolivia but a resident of Monterrey for 14 years, sold pique and silpacho, two dishes consisting of egg, milanesa or chicken, potatoes, and rice. Most of those interviewed agreed that the 'green' team would triumph over Iraq with a 2-1 score.
