Protests by Health Workers Cause Major Traffic Disruptions

Health sector workers blocked the lateral lanes and two of the central lanes of Periférico Norte on Monday, March 3, at the height of the Cuauhtémoc unit in Naucalpan, State of Mexico. The protesters claim they are owed benefits, are facing workplace harassment, and demanded the delivery of appointments, as well as respect for their working conditions, among other demands.

Amid banners and slogans, the workers requested a prompt response from the authorities to their needs. The blockade caused severe traffic congestion affecting drivers and public transport coming from nearby municipalities, such as Tlalnepantla, Atizapán, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Tultitlán, and Tepotzotlán.

Police presence and local government personnel were deployed to manage the situation. The workers maintained the protest until they received a positive response to their demands, claiming they had previously expressed their concerns at their workplaces.

Initially, the protesters blocked the lateral lanes but later halted traffic in two of the three central lanes heading to Mexico City, causing a bottleneck that reached the vicinity of the Satélite towers, approximately one kilometer from the blockade point near the Cuauhtémoc Unit of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS).

Due to the traffic cuts, public transport users were forced to get off the vehicles and seek alternative routes to reach their destinations on time.
