Mexico City Police Suspend Officers for Covering Up Double Murder Scene

The Mexico City Police acknowledged that its officers were involved in the discovery of a taxi in which two people lost their lives after being shot with a firearm. In an official statement, it was reported that the police pushed the vehicle several meters from the Azcapotzalco borough to the border with the municipality of Naucalpan in the State of Mexico, instead of securing the scene and reporting to the Public Prosecutor. Reporters stated that the vehicle was found on Calzada La Naranja, Ahuizotla, Naucalpan. At the scene, a conflict occurred with State of Mexico police officers who tried to prevent photographers from capturing the scene. "While the killers were fleeing… the authority was intimidating." During the double murder on Calzada La Naranja, in Ahuizotla, Naucalpan, dozens of municipal, state, and National Guard elements arrived at the scene. But instead of searching for the perpetrators… The Naucalpan Municipal Police informed that they reported the case to the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office, but clarified that the firearm discharges were not recorded in its territory: It is important to clarify that no firearm discharges or violent events related to this discovery were recorded in the municipality of Naucalpan; therefore, it will be up to the judicial authorities to determine the place and circumstances in which the events occurred. The Citizen Security Secretariat reported that the administrative investigation file has been initiated and the Prosecutor's Office for Justice has been notified for the investigation of both the homicide and the alteration of the scene. As investigations are carried out and responsibilities are established, the directly involved uniformed officers and the supervisory commands responsible for them will be suspended from their duties, the prosecutor's office reported. The communiqué includes this statement: This Citizen Security Secretariat will not tolerate behaviors or practices contrary to the principles, norms, and codes that govern us as an Institution and that diminish the work of those who carry out the mission to protect and serve with vocation and commitment; all illicit acts in which police officers are involved will be investigated and sanctioned. Corruption and actions that harm the citizenry will not be permitted.
