The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, proposed to concession seven passenger train routes in the document '100 steps for transformation'. One of these routes is the Mexico-San Luis Potosí-Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo Train, which will be part of the priority railway projects of the 4T.
In a conference, Sheinbaum suggested that the new Mexico-Nuevo Laredo train could be called 'Gulf of Mexico Train', in response to the renaming of the gulf to 'Gulf of America' by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The president mentioned that these passenger railway routes would use the current freight tracks, although the possibility of acquiring additional track rights in some sections will be studied to avoid affecting the freight train on the Mexico-Nuevo Laredo route.
Sheinbaum also announced that she will send a letter to Google to rectify the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to 'Gulf of America' on its maps in the United States, arguing that it pertains to international waters and that this change requires a decision from the International Hydrographic Organization.
Amid this controversy, the Mexican president recalled that in the past, the current territory of the United States and Canada was referred to as 'Mexican America' on old maps, even suggesting the possibility of asking Google to make this change on its maps.
