The president of the Human Rights Committee of Nuevo Laredo, Raymundo Ramos, announced on 'Aristegui en Vivo' that four soldiers involved in the deaths of young people in the city have been sentenced to prison. This sentence is the result of a complex judicial process marked by various irregularities during the investigation and trial. Of the 17 soldiers implicated, only four were brought to trial.
Two years ago, a group of young people attended a nightclub in Nuevo Laredo to celebrate the future fatherhood of Gustavo Ángel Suárez. After leaving the venue, they were chased by soldiers without warning. The soldiers hit and dragged the vehicle of the young people, followed by gunfire that resulted in the deaths of several of them. Only two young people survived, although they suffered torture and threats from the soldiers.
The testimonies of the survivors were crucial in clarifying the events. Despite the fact that the young people were unarmed and there was clear evidence of their innocence, attempts were made to distort the situation. From the testimony of the survivors, the sequence of events and the actions of the authorities in this case could be understood.
Raymundo Ramos emphasized the importance of justice and respect for Human Rights at all times, especially by military and security forces. Although the sentence against the four soldiers is a step forward, he emphasized that it is insufficient and that there are still pending legal aspects, such as the individualization of the penalty for those involved.
In the next hearing, a request for a public apology from the Ministry of National Defense is expected, supported by the families of the victims. Ramos highlighted that the young people were unjustly criminalized from the beginning and denounced the delayed actions of local and national authorities in this case. The fight for justice and respect for Human Rights continues, aiming to prevent tragedies like the one in Nuevo Laredo from happening again in the future.
