Mexico Concludes Reparations for Train Accident Victims

The Government of Mexico announced the conclusion of the comprehensive reparations process for the victims of the Interoceanic train accident, which occurred on the Z Line in Oaxaca. More than three months after the tragedy, which left 14 dead and over 100 injured, authorities confirmed that all who initiated the process were fully attended to. Specialized medical services, psychological support, and legal advice were guaranteed. The Mexican State assumed the case «with absolute responsibility, placing the victims and their families at the center». The process was coordinated by various federal and state agencies, including the Executive Commission for Victim Assistance, the Attorney General's Office, and the government of Oaxaca. A total of 236 public servants were deployed to provide direct assistance, even abroad. Furthermore, it was emphasized that the reparations were not limited to financial compensation but included ongoing care and humane treatment, acknowledging the impact on the families. In parallel, the Attorney General's Office reiterated that the accident was caused by the «negligent excess of speed attributable to the engineer», as well as omissions by the conductor and the dispatcher. The agency stated that the railway infrastructure met the standards and that no structural failures were present. Those responsible have already been linked to the process for homicide and negligent injuries.
