Suspension of Activities in Pátzcuaro Due to Violence

The local government of the municipality informed about the suspension of all commercial and academic activities as a preventive measure to ensure the safety of the residents. This decision was made in light of the wave of violence unleashed in the region.

Recently, Jesús Rivera Aguirre, known as "El Gordo Chuy," alleged leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Michoacán, was released after a District judge decided not to link him to the process due to irregularities in its integration. Following this release, a series of violent attacks have been recorded in the area.

In an armed confrontation between the National Guard and a criminal group on the Mexico-Guadalajara highway, near Churintzio, a fire broke out affecting at least ten vehicles and left two officers injured. The incidents spread to other areas, where more vehicles were reported to be on fire.

Local and federal authorities, including the Civil Guard, the Mexican Army, and the Municipal Police, were mobilized to reinforce security in the area. However, they were also attacked during the operation.

In response to the growing concern for the safety of the population, an operation has been deployed to contain the violence. The municipal president of Erongarícuaro urged the population to stay sheltered until authorities ensure safety in the region.

In a statement, municipal authorities have called for calm and unity in these difficult times, asking residents to remain in their homes until otherwise instructed. The violence in the region has generated great concern for the safety of citizens, and it is expected that authorities will manage to restore order.
