Massacre in Pénjamo: Three Dead, Including a Child

Armed men shot and killed two men and a 3-year-old child in Pénjamo, a locality operated by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), on the night of Saturday, March 14. According to the report from Public Security authorities, the massacre occurred around 21:00 on Saturday, outside a residence located on Zapotera Street at the corner of November 20th Street, in the Lázaro Cárdenas neighborhood, in Pénjamo. Preliminary information indicates that the family was socializing at the entrance of their house, and it was there that four men on two motorcycles arrived and repeatedly shot at them. After the attack, the aggressors fled, while neighbors in the locality reported the shootout that occurred in Guanajuato. Elements of the Pénjamo Municipal Police, the Army, the National Guard, and the Public Security of Guanajuato arrived at the scene, where they found the victims of the armed attack. Later, paramedics from the Red Cross arrived at the site and confirmed the death of the two adults and the 3-year-old child, after which the place of the facts was cordoned off and guarded by Security elements, while experts and agents of the Guanajuato State Attorney General's Office processed the scene and initiated the corresponding investigations. State and federal police forces implemented an operation in search of the aggressors, but at the moment, no arrests have been reported for this triple homicide. The State Attorney General's Office reported this Sunday that the three fatal victims were identified as José Juan 'N', José Antonio 'N', and the minor. The Pénjamo Municipal Government confirmed the massacre and condemned the acts of violence for the multiple homicide. We condemn in the most forceful manner these acts of violence. It pains us and deeply outrages us the preliminary information that points to the irreparable loss of a minor's life, said the local Morena government headed by Mayor Yozajamby Florencia Molina Balver. In the communiqué, the municipal government assured that it is willing to collaborate with the authorities to clarify the facts. We reiterate that we maintain permanent coordination with state and federal authorities to reinforce security actions, with the objective of continuing to work on the protection of Pénjamo families, the Pénjamo municipal authorities state. According to reports from security authorities, Pénjamo is one of the 23 municipalities in the state of Guanajuato that are controlled by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
