In a joint operation between the Attorney General's Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) and authorities from the state of Hidalgo, an individual identified as A. E. E. G. was arrested in Pachuca de Soto, who is considered a leader of La Unión Tepito. The detention took place on Ramón G. Bonfil Boulevard in the capital of Hidalgo. Axel, an alleged leader of a criminal cell associated with La Unión Tepito, had been operating in exclusive areas of Mexico City, such as Condesa and Polanco, where he committed crimes of extortion and drug trafficking in bars and businesses.
Intelligence work led to Axel's location and capture by agents of the Investigation Police (PDI) of the FGJCDMX, in collaboration with security forces from the State of Hidalgo. After 7 years on the run, the coordination between the authorities of both states facilitated his recapture.
On Wednesday, January 22, Daniel Eduardo León Cifuentes, also known as 'El Tiger' and financial operator of La Unión Tepito, was detained. During his capture, 189 doses of alleged drugs, a firearm, and useful cartridges were secured at a property in Benito Juárez. This place was suspected of being used for the storage and packaging of drugs, leading to surveillance and reconnaissance tours in the area.
In March 2024, Eduardo Ramírez Tiburcio, alias El Chori, was arrested and identified as the leader of the organization La Unión Tepito. Considered a high-risk criminal, a reward was offered for information leading to his capture. Official reports indicate that El Chori's arrest took place in the Héroes de Padierna neighborhood, Tlalpan borough. Axel, for whom a reward of one million pesos was offered, was transferred to the Eastern Preventive Male Prison of Mexico City, where he will face charges of extortion, drug trafficking, and other serious crimes.
Authorities have confirmed Axel's connection to the criminal group La Condensa, associated with La Unión Tepito, one of the most dangerous criminal organizations in the capital. Since August 2023, he was considered one of the main generators of violence in Mexico City, attributed with various criminal activities related to drug trafficking, extortion, and other crimes in the metropolitan area. Axel had already been prosecuted in 2018 but had obtained bail.
