Fuel Spill in Paraíso, Tabasco

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo confirmed this Thursday in the morning briefing a fuel spill in Paraíso, Tabasco, resulting from a leak in a pipeline from the Olmeca refinery in Dos Bocas. In this regard, the president assured that "work is already underway" to resolve the issue, with Pemex taking measures from the first moments. Repair work is already in progress; as soon as the leak was detected, a shield was put in place, and the cleaning process is ongoing, estimating that about 300 barrels were involved and it is being addressed. Regarding the impacts, especially on fishermen, she added that the Government will provide support if necessary, due to the contamination resulting from the spill.

On Wednesday, Pemex reported the repair of two leaks in a pipeline that transports oil from the Akal-C Platform to the Dos Bocas Maritime Terminal (TMDB), with the installation of two metal clamps. The state-owned company pointed out at that time that preparations were being made for the verification of tightness and operation of the pipeline. It also detailed that after conducting a mapping, it was detected that some of the volume of oil that leaked reached the coast of the Dos Bocas Maritime Terminal in the municipality of Paraíso, Tabasco, over an area of 7 kilometers.

"Immediately, specialized personnel and equipment from Pemex carried out the cleanup, which is expected to be completed in the next few hours," she said. In these actions, she explained, there was dialogue with fishing communities to establish preventive measures to quickly reactivate their productive activities. The event was notified to the Agency for Safety, Energy, and Environment (ASEA) of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) to implement the corresponding remediation actions.
