Man arrested in State of Mexico on suspicion of fuel theft

In Polotitlán, State of Mexico, a man was arrested for driving a tanker with 22,000 liters of fuel, allegedly stolen from a pipeline. The operation was carried out with the coordination of state and federal security forces.

A man was arrested in the locality of San Antonio el Viejo, in the municipality of Polotitlán, on suspicion of fuel theft after he was caught driving a tanker with 22,000 liters of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), allegedly extracted illegally from a pipeline. The vehicle was 80% full, reported the State of Mexico Security Secretariat in a press release. The operation originated from a call to the national emergency number 9-1-1, channeled to the State of Mexico's Control, Command, Communication, Computing and Quality (C5) Center, where the presence of a vehicle used for the illicit extraction of fuel was reported. Immediately, field personnel were requested to go to the site to verify the situation. Based on the report, operational personnel traveled to the locality of San Antonio el Viejo, where they located the mentioned unit as it was leaving a pipeline. In response, officers requested the driver to stop the vehicle to carry out an inspection. According to official information, the inspection was carried out in accordance with the established protocols of action in the Mesas de Paz. During the inspection, security elements verified that the tanker had a capacity of 22,400 liters and was transporting LPG without the operator being able to accredit its legal origin or ownership. After the verification, Juan “N”, 35 years old, who was driving the unit at the time of the events, was informed of his rights in accordance with the law and was placed at the disposal of the corresponding Agent of the Public Ministry to determine his legal situation.
