In Poza Rica de Hidalgo, in northern Veracruz, a new explosive package was detected that intended to go unnoticed as perfume, as confirmed by local Civil Protection. This incident occurred shortly after three similar packages with fragrances exploded in Coatzacoalcos and Papantla, causing serious injuries to three people.
On the night of last Monday, authorities responded to a report about a suspicious package in the Manuel Ávila Camacho neighborhood that had a wire protruding from its interior. As a preventive measure, an explosives disposal team from Tuxpan went to the site and, after a review, detonated the package in a controlled manner to avoid possible damage.
Local media reported that this package bore similarities to those found in Papantla recently. In response to this situation, the municipal government of Poza Rica issued an alert to citizens to remain cautious and avoid accepting gifts from unknown people.
Regarding these events, authorities in Veracruz described the occurrences as "criminal acts" and "antisocial behaviors." The governor of Veracruz, Rocío Nahle García, indicated that the State Attorney General's Office is investigating the incidents in Papantla related to the handling of aerosol perfumes that have injured citizens in the region.
The first incident occurred on February 26 in Coatzacoalcos, where a man lost a hand while opening a package. Subsequently, in Papantla, two similar events caused serious injuries to a woman and a man when handling similar aerosol perfume packages.
Authorities have already identified the individuals involved in these events, although no arrests have been made yet. Regarding the possible connection between the incidents in Papantla and the case in Coatzacoalcos, Governor Nahle clarified that, so far, there is no confirmation that they are linked.
