Journalist Miguel Ángel Anaya, director of Pánuco Online, disappeared in Pánuco, in northern Veracruz. So far, there has been no news about his whereabouts. Anaya's disappearance occurred after he publicly reported threats against him that jeopardized his safety. The State Commission for Attention and Protection of Journalists of the State of Veracruz confirmed the disappearance and has initiated a search protocol in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office and the Secretary of Public Security.

Article 19 reported on social media that the journalist had alerted since February about threats and harassment against him. In a previous complaint, Anaya mentioned that unknown individuals informed him they had 'a message from the municipal president.' Anaya's disappearance has raised concerns, and a prompt response from authorities is expected to locate him and provide protection to his family.

The CEAPP (State Commission for Attention and Protection of Journalists) has been collaborating with authorities, such as the Attorney General's Office and the Secretary of Public Security, since the situation of the journalist became known. It is reported that Anaya had been threatened by local politicians, and his disappearance, which allegedly occurred on April 13, was reported later.

Article 19 denounced that during the week of the disappearance, the website managed by Anaya, Pánuco Online, has been deleting information. The concern for the integrity and whereabouts of Miguel Ángel Anaya continues to grow, while a prompt response from the competent authorities is awaited.
