In the state of Querétaro, crime rates have shown a reduction compared to the previous year, recording a decline not seen since 2020. Over the last three years, crimes had been on the rise: in 2023 they increased by 7.9%, in 2022 by 8.7%, and in 2021 by 3.6%. This decrease was highlighted during the eighth ordinary session of the State Security Council, where the 18 mayors of the state met with Governor Mauricio Kuri and the Attorney General, Víctor Antonio De Jesús Hernández.
In this meeting, the governor attributed the decrease in crimes to the coordinated strategy among state police, municipal elements, prosecutors, civic judges, and security operators throughout Querétaro, including the borders with other entities. He emphasized the importance of promptly addressing any violent incidents to avoid impunity and maintain safe coexistence in society.
During 2024, 518 million pesos from federal and state funds were allocated to security, justice, and crime prevention programs and projects in the 18 municipalities of Querétaro. It was also reported that 47 repeat offenders were transferred to rehabilitation centers for addictions as part of an agreement signed with municipal civic courts.
In the session, the results of the 2024 agenda from the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Center for Social Prevention of Crime and Violence, the Penitentiary System, and the Attorney General's Office were presented, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System. Additionally, the guidelines for the distribution of federal resources intended for security actions in the municipalities were approved.
