Injustice Against Mafer Turrent: A Call for Justice

Mafer Turrent, mother of a girl and a boy who has sought to live free from violence since 2023, was unjustly imprisoned. The collective Las Equilibristas pointed out that Edgar 'N', backed by the Judiciary, managed to separate her from her children. In a march in San Andrés Tuxtla, women protested this arbitrary act, considering it part of the vicarious violence that Mafer Turrent suffers, like other mothers.

During a hearing in the Mexico City Court, Mafer was accused of fabricated crimes by her ex-partner, as an extension of the violence he has exerted against her and her children. Feminist collectives denounced that Mafer Turrent is detained as part of the vicarious violence from her ex-partner, who has reported her for several false crimes, including child retention, to achieve her imprisonment.

The collectives demanded the release of Mafer Turrent and that her ex-partner be investigated for domestic violence. Despite her repeatedly reporting her aggressor, investigations in her case have not progressed. Turrent's ex-partner filed multiple complaints against her, leading to her detention for the alleged retention of minors, depriving her of her freedom as a precautionary measure.

The Secretariat for Women and various feminist collectives have expressed their support for Mafer Turrent, highlighting the corruption and influence trafficking surrounding her case. According to Citlalli Hernández, Secretary of Women, the case of Mafer Turrent reflects a possible modus operandi in the judiciary against women who report violence by men with economic power.
