Arrest of Criminal Leader in Chiapas

The authorities of Chiapas managed to strike a blow against the criminal organization known as 'Los Motonetos' with the detention of its leader Diego 'N', accused of attacks against the peace, bodily integrity, and property of the community and the state. The capture operation was carried out by elements of the Attorney General's Office, the People's Security Secretariat, the Immediate Reaction Force Pakal, and the Secretary of National Defense. According to intelligence information, the detainee is identified as one of the leaders of this criminal group and is now at the disposal of the Jurisdictional Body to determine his legal situation.

At a press conference held on January 19, the Attorney General of the State, Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca, and the Secretary of People's Security, Óscar Alberto Aparicio Avendaño, reported on events of violence occurring in the northern area of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, the birthplace of 'Los Motonetos'. As part of an operation, 14 searches were carried out in properties used as chop shops, where more than 200 tons of auto parts were found. In addition, firearms, cartridges, and drugs were seized.

Jorge Llaven detailed that more than 100 vehicles and 120 motorcycles were secured, and 16 people were arrested, 14 of them at the time of the crime. Arrest warrants were executed against two individuals, one of them being the leader of the organization and another for crimes related to kidnapping. In another action in Mapastepec, a report about suspicious cameras led to the deactivation of 35 of these devices that were used by criminals to monitor authorities. Three people were arrested at that location, and motorcycles, vehicles, and drugs were seized. So far, more than 100 cameras have been deactivated in various municipalities of Chiapas.
