The murder of Father Marcelo Pérez in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, shocked the local community and raised numerous questions about the circumstances surrounding his death and his life. According to local media, the priest left his church in the Cuxtitali neighborhood and was heading to the Guadalupe church when he was attacked by two individuals on a motorcycle in broad daylight and in public view.
President Claudia Sheinbaum lamented the homicide and assured that she is coordinating with the state government and the Diocese to ensure the case does not go unpunished. Sheinbaum Pardo mentioned: “We regret the murder of Father Marcelo Pérez in San Cristóbal de las Casas. We are working in two areas in Chiapas, where there is a change of governor in December. We are working with both the current governor and the incoming one, in a social intervention to support the causes, and intelligence for the investigations.”
During the early hours of Sunday, October 20, Father Marcelo Pérez Pérez was murdered after leaving his church in the Cuxtitali neighborhood, in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas.
