Last night, around 11:00 PM, Nelson H., the legal director of the Oaxacan municipality of San Jacinto Amilpas, Oaxaca, was assassinated while leading a drunk driving operation. According to local police data, two men on a motorcycle arrived at the location of the operation set up in Riberas del Atoyac and shot him. Red Cross personnel arrived at the scene, but the municipal official, attached to the traffic department, was no longer alive. In response to this homicide, the municipal authority, headed by President Alejandro Díaz Díaz, issued a statement condemning the crime against the municipal official. He stated that the urgent clarification of the facts and the due process of investigation are necessary. «Firmly and categorically, we inform the worker's family and the public that this City Hall will collaborate to ensure that those responsible for this cowardly act are identified and punished to the full extent of the law, as violence will never be the answer, and we will not allow this type of event to be normalized in our community,» he added. To date, justice authorities have not reported the detention of any person for this homicide.
