The third councilor of San Juan Chamula, Manuel Hernández, lost his life while attempting to cross a river in the community of Tierra Colorada, Chiapas, during the heavy rains caused by the meteorological phenomenon 'Nadine'. In a video that has circulated on various platforms, it can be seen how Hernández tried to leave his vehicle, trapped in the river's current. Despite his efforts, the force of the water swept him away, and his body was later found by his family.

Local media reported that Manuel Hernández is the third fatal victim in Chiapas due to the phenomenon 'Nadine'. The first two victims were reported in Carrizal, a municipality in Tila, where a landslide buried a house, claiming the lives of its occupants.

This tragic situation highlights the dangers of heavy rains that have overflowed rivers and streams in several municipalities. According to Civil Protection, more than 5,500 families have been affected, and a total of 5,541 homes have suffered damages.
