The Government Directorate, Civil Protection, in collaboration with the Municipal Public Security Secretariat, carried out the supervision of five establishments operating as bars and nightclubs during the night of Friday and the early morning of Saturday. As a result, two of the venues were closed for failing to comply with Civil Protection regulations and for selling alcohol to minors.
The inspected places were 'Zirkus', 'Cervecería', and 'La Castellana' on Central Avenue, Valle de Oro neighborhood; 'Wikka' on Paso de Los Guzmán Avenue; and 'Bar Chicago' on University Avenue. The last two establishments were closed because they endangered the safety of visitors in the event of an emergency, according to the heads of the Inspection, Execution, and Operating Licenses areas, as well as the Alcohol Inspection and Execution.
José Román Chávez Mejía, director of municipal Civil Protection, emphasized the importance of establishments having not only municipal licenses but also emergency exits, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and visible signage. Meanwhile, Rodrigo Ruiz Díaz, Government Director, announced that supervision operations will be continuous and surprise-based to ensure compliance with regulations.
The municipal president, Roberto Cabrera Valencia, highlighted the commitment of the Municipal Government of San Juan del Río to enforce the laws to guarantee a safe city. Citizens are called upon to report any irregularities to the emergency numbers 089 for anonymous reports and to 9-1-1 for emergency situations.
