Mexican Wrestler Alberto del Río Sent to Prison

Mexican wrestler Alberto del Río, known as “El Patrón”, was sent to pretrial detention after a control judge in San Luis Potosi determined that he will face his criminal process deprived of his liberty. The measure was issued after an initial hearing in which his detention, which occurred following an emergency report for alleged aggression against his partner, was deemed legal. The Prosecutor's Office accuses him of domestic violence. According to the Attorney General's Office of San Luis Potosi, the former wrestler was charged with the crime of domestic violence, as well as with qualified injuries in the same context. The case is being investigated by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Attention to Women, Family and Sexual Crimes, which opened the file after the victim's complaint. According to the first official reports, the events occurred in a home in the Lomas del Tecnológico subdivision, where the woman would have suffered physical and verbal aggression, which led to the intervention of security elements and the in-flagranti detention of the former WWE member. He will remain in prison while the process advances. During the hearing, the defense requested that the process be carried out in freedom; however, the judge determined to impose preventive imprisonment as a precautionary measure, considering risks to the victim. Alberto del Río availed himself of the constitutional 72-hour period, so it will be in the coming days when it is defined if he is linked to the process. Meanwhile, he will remain in a state prison in San Luis Potosi. What's next in the case? In the next hearing, the judicial authority will determine if there are sufficient elements to link him to the process for the crime of domestic violence. If confirmed, the criminal process will continue and it will be decided if the former wrestler remains in prison during the trial or if he can access another precautionary measure. This case once again places Alberto del Río in the public spotlight, who in the past had already faced legal allegations abroad.
