In the northeast of Guanajuato, the fifth stage of the rehabilitation of the San Luis de la Paz–San José Iturbide highway concluded. This stretch connects rural communities with municipal seats and concentrates key regional traffic. The project, carried out by the Secretariat of Public Works (SOP), represented an investment of 9 million 434 thousand 367 pesos and covered a length of 5.60 kilometers, where asphalt paving, superficial patching, and horizontal signage were applied. The head of the SOP, Juan Pablo Pérez Beltrán, reported that a speed bump was also rehabilitated, as part of the actions to strengthen road safety in the area. It connects communities and regional activity. The intervention directly benefits communities such as La Laguna, Cruz de la Masa, Viborillas, and Galomo, in addition to improving access to nearby ranches and reinforcing mobility between San Luis de la Paz and San José Iturbide. In total, the impact reaches more than 20,000 inhabitants, in a region where road infrastructure is key for productive activities, daily commutes, and access to services. Execution in four months. The works were carried out by the company Instalaciones y Servicios Industriales ALLMAR S.A. de C.V., with an execution period of four months. “We continue to work to have roads in good condition that allow for safe transit,” stated the state official, in line with the infrastructure strategy promoted by the state administration. Infrastructure as a territorial bet. With this project, the state reinforces its road maintenance policy, in a context where connectivity continues to be one of the pillars for regional development and the integration of rural areas into the economic dynamism of Guanajuato. The northeast of Guanajuato —where municipalities such as San Luis de la Paz and San José Iturbide are located— has historically had medium to high levels of marginalization, according to measurements from the National Population Council. Indicators such as educational backwardness, population dispersion, and limitations in access to basic services have marked this region, which for decades has been lagging behind the industrial corridor of the Bajío. Although in recent years some municipalities have improved their position due to the arrival of investment and connectivity, structural gaps persist that make road infrastructure a key factor for reducing territorial inequalities.
