Residents and tourists in the La Boca area are urged to exercise caution due to the appearance of a baboon. This non-native animal to Nuevo León is known for its ferocity and irritable behavior. The baboon was spotted near the La Boca dam and also climbing a house wall. It is presumed that the animal escaped from a cage where it was kept in a local home. Authorities and neighbors of Santiago municipality warn that the baboon is showing aggressive behavior. Therefore, it is strongly advised not to approach it, not to feed it, and to keep children and pets safe. Baboons, native to Africa and Arabia, live in large groups and are known for their aggressive and unpredictable temperament. If during the Easter holidays you are in the La Boca area and encounter this animal, you must follow these guidelines: never show your teeth, stay calm, do not run, and avoid eye contact. Back away slowly without turning your back. Do not attempt to retrieve stolen items. In case of a confrontation, raise your arms, make noise, and appear larger to prevent an attack. If an attack is imminent, throw food at it to distract it. Be sure to report the baboon sighting to Profepa and Civil Protection.
