On Monday, March 30, a mining accident in Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango, resulted in the death of a miner from Guanajuato, according to local digital media. The victim was identified as Juan Carlos Martínez Ramírez, approximately 30 years old, who was carrying out blasting activities at the La Sorpresa mine, part of the Unidad Minera Del Cantil. According to initial reports, the accident occurred around 05:30 when a detonation happened without warning, possibly due to a lack of communication among workers. The explosion caused severe injuries to the worker, including significant damage to his hands, which led to his death at the scene. In the same incident, another worker identified as Alfredo was injured and was transported to the city of Durango for medical care. As the body was located about 600 meters from the main mine entrance, rescue crews performed maneuvers to extract it. Authorities from the Investigative Police of Crimes and personnel from Forensic Services attended the site to conduct the corresponding investigation, under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The body was transferred to the regional unit of Santiago Papasquiaro for the legal autopsy, while inquiries continue to clarify the causes of the accident. In a parallel case, another Guanajuato miner is fighting for his life: in a mine in Sinaloa, miner Abraham Aguilera, also from the state, remains trapped along with other workers. Rescue operations, now exceeding 130 consecutive hours, continue, maintaining hope of finding them alive.
