Claudia Sheinbaum Discusses US Relations

President Claudia Sheinbaum spoke this Sunday about the ongoing conversations with the Government of the United States, highlighting the importance of maintaining a good relationship between both nations "in respect for our sovereignty and among the peoples".

During a work tour in Santiago Pinotepa Nacional, Oaxaca, Sheinbaum mentioned that nearly a week after the start of Donald Trump's administration, negotiations are still ongoing. She emphasized that Mexican migrants in the United States play a fundamental role in that country's economy.

In his first days in office, Trump has deployed thousands of military personnel to the border, declared drug cartels in Mexico as terrorists, and begun deportations. Despite this, he has softened his threats to impose tariffs on Mexican products.

Sheinbaum expressed her optimism about this, stating that she does not see a trade war with the United States, particularly after Trump's statements at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he asserted that agreements with Mexico are moving in a good direction.

The Mexican leader also announced that during her Monday morning press conference, she will address the issue of the alleged rejection of a plane with migrants deported from the United States, as well as the negotiations surrounding the trade agreement between Mexico, the United States, and Canada (T-MEC).
