Capture of Cartel Leader Marks New Struggle in Sinaloa

In the Altar-Sásabe region of Sonora, two factions of drug trafficking: 'Los Chapitos' and 'Los Salazar', are fighting for control of trafficking routes. In the midst of this conflict, Omar 'N', alias 'El Pelón', stood out, coordinating attacks by 'Los Chapitos' against 'La Mayiza' in Sinaloa, being part of Los Pelones de Sonoyta and their armed wing 'Los Deltas'.

During his stay in Sonora from August 6 to September 19, 'El Pelón' utilized advanced technology, such as drones loaded with explosives, in his attacks. After surviving an assassination attempt in General Plutarco Elías Calles, he returned to Sinaloa. Considered one of the armed wings of the Sinaloa Cartel, he was given top priority for capture due to detected plans for more attacks.

On November 15, Ramón 'N', known as 'El Kiki', another key member of the Sinaloa Cartel faction led by the sons of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, was arrested. This action was carried out in response to recent violent events in Sinaloa and in collaboration with various government institutions.

The capture of 'El Pelón' was announced by Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch and was carried out jointly with the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy, the Attorney General's Office, and the Secretariat of Security. It was highlighted that 'El Pelón' has an arrest warrant and is involved in criminal activities such as homicides, trafficking of fentanyl and weapons to Arizona, United States.

This arrest represents a blow to 'Los Chapitos' in their confrontation with 'La Mayiza'. It is mentioned that 'El Pelón' had an alliance with Eric Jesús Cabrera Cabrera, leader of the group 'Los Deltas', since July 2022. Los Pelones de Sonoyta are accused of being responsible for the increase in violence in the Gulf of Santa Clara, while Los Deltas are linked to the murder of a US Marine veteran in October.
