Less than a week after returning to classes, some students and teachers will enjoy a long weekend in the state of Tabasco from May 2 to May 5. This is because educational authorities, together with union authorities, decided to move the holiday for Labor Day on May 1 to Friday, May 2, coinciding with the commemoration of the Battle of Puebla on May 5, a holiday according to the SEP calendar. Therefore, school activities will resume on Tuesday, May 6.
This break period extends from Wednesday, April 30, to Monday, May 5, totaling six consecutive days without classes. Although the change aims to improve school logistics, many schools had already decided not to hold classes on April 30, Children's Day, limiting that day to activities within the classrooms.
The coincidence of the long weekend with the beginning of the Tabasco Fair 2025, which will take place from May 1 to May 11 with an investment of approximately 60 million pesos, is expected to increase the influx of visitors to the fairgrounds. Additionally, as part of the activities for Children's Day, it was reported that all children under 12 years old will have free access to the rides from the company Roca Park on Wednesday, April 30, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The return to classes last Monday involved over 514,000 students of basic education statewide, attended by nearly 23,000 teachers distributed across more than 5,300 schools. However, with the new adjusted calendar, most of them will have a week with minimal school activities.
