Two foreign men were arrested in the municipality of Tapachula, Chiapas, after being caught in possession of drugs and a firearm. According to state authorities, both are presumed to be members of the so-called Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel, a criminal organization with a presence on the country's southern border. Operation in Tapachula The arrest was carried out during preventive patrols by security forces in the malecón area, specifically at the intersection of 20th Avenue North and 5th Street West. The operation involved state forces, immediate response personnel, as well as ministerial and armed forces. The detainees were identified as Juan “N”, of Venezuelan nationality, and Enrique “N”, of Guatemalan origin, who were intercepted by agents during these surveillance operations. Drugs and a firearm seized During the search, authorities seized a significant number of drug doses. Among the confiscated items were approximately 200 bags of green herb with characteristics similar to marijuana, as well as 1,000 wraps with a granulated substance similar to crack. Additionally, the subjects were carrying a revolver-type firearm, supplied with one live .44 caliber cartridge, which reinforces the alleged connection to criminal activities. Suspected links to a criminal group According to official information, both detainees stated they belong to the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel, an organization that operates in the region and has been linked to various drug-related crimes. This criminal group maintains a presence on the border between Mexico and Guatemala, where it disputes key territories for drug trafficking and other illicit activities. Handed over to authorities After their arrest, the two men were handed over to the Public Ministry, which will be responsible for determining their legal status in the coming hours. It should be noted that this case adds to other recent operations in Chiapas, where authorities have managed to capture presumed members of the same criminal group, in an attempt to weaken its structure in the region.
