Mexican security forces have killed Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'El Mencho', leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), during a special operation. The operation was the result of a joint intelligence effort between Mexican and US agencies, which monitored the CJNG leader's network of contacts. After months of surveillance, the fugitive was located in Tapalpa, Jalisco. When security forces surrounded him, the armed men accompanying him opened fire. During the clash, described by the military as 'very violent,' eight suspected members of the criminal group were killed, and three soldiers were injured. Following the initial exchange of fire, the drug lord and his security detail fled to a forested area. At this point, a military operation was launched to capture him. The operation, led by the Mexican Army with the support of the National Guard and special forces, was assisted by six helicopters and several aircraft. During the confrontation, an Army helicopter was hit and forced to make an emergency landing. After a second clash, the military repelled the attack, wounding El Mencho and two of his bodyguards. After the CJNG leader's arrest, he was transported to a medical center in Morelia, but unfortunately, he died en route due to the severity of his injuries, stated General Ricardo TreviƱo Trejo. The Attorney General's Office (FGR) confirmed the death of 59-year-old Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, one of the most wanted criminals by Mexico and the United States, after a forensic analysis and official identification of his body. During the operation, security forces seized numerous weapons, including Russian-designed RPGs, the same model used in 2015 to shoot down a helicopter that killed seven Mexican soldiers.
