The Animalist Movement of Puebla reported that the Tehuacán zoo does not comply with the five domains of animal welfare and requested Semarnat and Profepa to strengthen the delegation in Puebla. They pointed out that the lack of inspections has allowed irregularities in the handling of wildlife, including cases of abuse in private homes.
The puma "Jorge" was captured on February 9 in Santiago Miahuatlán after wandering into inhabited areas. The feline, approximately five years old, is currently under the care of Profepa. The owner of the "Club de los Animalitos" zoo in Tehuacán seeks to obtain permanent custody of the puma, which worries the Animalist Movement for the welfare of the animal.
Specialists participated in the capture of the puma, which showed signs of malnutrition. The feline was found in the yard of a house after being sighted in previous days in another nearby area. Authorities will soon evaluate the final destination of the animal, prioritizing its welfare and safety. After sedating the puma, it was removed from a tree where it had taken refuge.
