Arrest of Key Criminal Leader in Puebla

The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) in Tabasco announced the detention of Carlos Tomás “N”, known as “El Lic” and/or “El Tomasín”, who is part of the criminal group “La Barredora”. The capture took place in Tehuacán, Puebla, following an arrest warrant issued by the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime.

The detainee will be presented before a Federal Control judge in Tabasco soon, as confirmed by Martín Rivera Cisneros, FGR delegate in Tabasco. Due process and the principle of presumption of innocence will be guaranteed, despite the arrest warrant being executed on January 19.

The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported that the capture of “El Tomasín” took place near the Ex Hacienda San Lorenzo, where drugs, a magazine with useful cartridges, and motorcycles reported stolen were seized.

Carlos Tomás “N” worked in the municipal presidency of Macuspana until 2017 and served as lawyer for Hernán Bermúdez Requena, former Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) from 2019 until January 2024, who is identified as the leader of La Barredora.

The group La Barredora has been linked to violent acts in the state, especially in its territorial contest with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). State authorities hold these criminal organizations responsible for massacres in bars and various executions in the region.
