Members of the Attorney General's Office detained Salvador 'N', the alleged perpetrator of the homicide of journalist Calletano Jesús Guerrero in Teoloyucan. The journalist was killed on January 17.


Suspect in journalist's homicide apprehended

Elements of the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico detained Salvador "N" alias "Chava" and/or "Chavita", the alleged responsible for the murder of journalist Calletano Jesús Guerrero, who died after being shot on January 17 in the municipality of Teoloyucan. The detention of Salvador "N" took place in the municipality of Villa del Carbón, where, according to the statement from the FGJEM, he attempted to evade justice by firing at the Investigation Police. The officers responded and arrested him, resulting in Salvador sustaining three bullet wounds, and he was transported to a hospital in the region.

The Attorney General's Office mentioned that Salvador "N" is also being investigated for other homicides and for the theft of hydrocarbons in the State of Mexico and in Hidalgo, where he has an arrest warrant. The detainee is under investigation for his alleged participation in several serious crimes.

In relation to the murder of Calletano Jesús Guerrero on January 17, it was determined that the journalist, deputy director of the media outlet Global México, was attacked by armed individuals in front of the San Antonio de Padua church in Teoloyucan. Guerrero had received prior threats from a criminal group and had been protected by the Protection Mechanism for Human Rights Defenders and Journalists since 2014. Despite the reinforced security measures in the previous months, unfortunately, his tragic murder could not be prevented.
