Seven people died in a traffic accident that occurred on Monday night at kilometer 23 of the Tepic-Compostela highway, also identified as Tepic-Bahía de Banderas 200D, on the stretch known as Miravalles. Preliminarily, it was indicated that the incident occurred in the lanes heading towards Puerto Vallarta, although to date no authority has issued official information on how the crash occurred or on the vehicles involved. The initial toll was six dead and one injured; however, hours later the death of the person who had been taken to a hospital was confirmed, so the death toll rose to seven. Emergency and security bodies attended the scene, including elements from the National Emergency Commission, State Firefighters, National Guard, State Police, and Mobility personnel, who performed rescue work, cordoned off the area, and maintained traffic control. Preliminarily, it was reported that two of the deceased were found inside the vehicles, while others were located on the asphalt and off the roadway. The deceased were identified as Erika Paola “N”, 31 years old; her daughters Benita Khataleya “N”, 8 years old, and Erika Guadalupe “N”, 14 years old; her sister Daniela Alejandra “N”, 34 years old; and her brother-in-law Noé “N”, 49 years old, all members of a family from the municipality of Compostela. A young woman identified as María Victoria “N” was taken to a hospital after being injured and later died after receiving medical attention. The identity of the seventh victim has not been officially confirmed. Forensic Medical Service personnel arrived later to carry out the body removal and corresponding proceedings. The Tepic-Compostela highway was inaugurated as recently as last November 8 by President Claudia Sheinbaum and the governor of Nayarit, Miguel Ángel Navarro, to improve connectivity in the tourist region, and its use is free until the last day of 2025. According to official information, the road had an investment of 4,212 million pesos and was projected to benefit about 490,000 inhabitants.
