Truck Drivers Block Highway in Mexico

Truck drivers from the northern part of the State of Mexico continue to block the Mexico-Querétaro highway, near Tepotzotlán and Cuautitlán Izcalli. They demand the release of their vehicles and the reopening of water wells that were shut down during the 'Caudal' operation by the State of Mexico's Prosecutor's Office last weekend. The operation resulted in the seizure of 322 vehicles, 52 wells, and 138 illegal water intakes. The seized tankers and the closure of wells were part of the 'Caudal' operation, implemented by the authorities of the State of Mexico to combat illegal water extraction and irregular sales.

At the Tepotzotlán toll booth, passage is free, while on the highway's side lanes, traffic has been reduced to a single lane in each direction. Traffic has been affected in municipalities such as Tlalnepantla, Naucalpan, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Atizapán, Tultitlán, and Coacalco. The North Periférico has partial closures and congestion, especially near Parque Naucalli and Plaza Sentura.

The drivers denounced the opening of what they consider to be false investigation files and warned that they could hold a mega-march to the Zócalo of Mexico City if they are not allowed to reopen the wells. Emergency services attended to traffic incidents, including truck collisions on the side lanes.

Federal Roads and Bridges (Capufe) reported the lane reduction and recommended that motorists use alternate routes to avoid delays. State and municipal authorities are at the blockage points, attempting to negotiate with the drivers to restore circulation and prevent a complete closure.
