A family was the victim of a violent shooting attack on Monday during an attempted robbery on the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway, resulting in the death of a woman and three people injured. The incident took place at kilometer 61 of the mentioned highway, at the borders of Tepoztlán and Huitzilac heading towards Mexico City, in the lane leading to the capital.
The victims were traveling in a gray Mazda when they were intercepted by the attackers who were in a Derby car. It is reported that the assailants attempted to steal their vehicle, but when they resisted, they began shooting at the occupants.
Two men and one woman were injured by the gunfire, while a fourth person was run over by the assailants while trying to escape. After the shooting, authorities arrived at the scene of the incident, confirmed the death of the run-over woman, and took the injured to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has launched an investigation to clarify the events and identify those responsible for the attack. Authorities continue to work to locate the attackers and determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
