Mexican authorities detained Kevin Fernando Perdomo Díaz, known as 'El Kino', a member of Mara Salvatrucha, who faces arrest warrants in El Salvador and a request from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States, according to security sources reported this Friday.
The arrest took place in Texcoco, State of Mexico, east of Mexico City. Perdomo Díaz has an arrest warrant for qualified homicide and membership in terrorist organizations in El Salvador. At the time of his detention, doses of marijuana were found on him.
The detention of 'El Kino' was the result of a joint operation involving the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of Navy (Semar), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), and State of Mexico authorities.
After conducting investigations, it was determined that the Embotelladores neighborhood in Texcoco was the location where the subject sought by the authorities of El Salvador and the United States was moving. Fixed and mobile surveillance was carried out in the area. Agents located Perdomo Díaz on Camino Viejo a Chapingo street, verified his identity, detained him, and found doses of marijuana.
In a statement, the SSPC informed that Kevin 'N' was informed of his constitutional rights and, along with the seized items, was presented to the corresponding Public Prosecutor's Office. His deportation to El Salvador is expected, where he is wanted by authorities.
The arrest is significant due to the declaration by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, in February, in which he classified Mara Salvatrucha as a terrorist organization, along with six Mexican cartels and the transnational group Tren de Aragua from Venezuela.
