
National Guard agents seized cartridges suitable for assault rifles hidden inside a guitar case during a security inspection at the "Garita San Emeterio" Customs as part of the Secure Border Operation. The discovery occurred when checking the luggage of a passenger bus, where, with the support of an X-ray scanner, federal agents detected .223 mm caliber cartridges, commonly used in assault rifles, inside the case compartment. The cartridges, the guitar, and the case were secured and placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Ministry to carry out the corresponding investigations regarding their origin and destination.
Since the beginning of the Border Operation on February 5, a total of 139 people have been arrested and 82 firearms have been seized (28 of them from the United States), 12,515 cartridges of various calibers, 437 magazines, 26.2256 kg of marijuana, 440.0281 kg of cocaine, 538.4106 kg of methamphetamine, 0.0125 kg of heroin, 8.5618 kg of fentanyl, $90,775 in national currency, 109 vehicles, and 16 properties.
The Northern Border Operation is the result of a bilateral agreement between the government of Mexico and that of the United States with the purpose of protecting the border area and discouraging the flow of drugs, fentanyl, and migrants. 19 customs have been strengthened and 23 border corridors established to carry out land interception operations with the support of aerial posts, as well as patrols, establishment of mobile security posts, and humanitarian rescues in the states of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas, with the aim of reducing the illegal trafficking of drugs and weapons.
Mexico and the United States share a border of 3,152 kilometers that begins at Monument 258 northwest of Tijuana, Baja California, and extends to the mouth of the Rio Bravo in the Gulf of Mexico.
