In an operation in Tonalá, authorities arrested 98 individuals who were impersonating police officers. Their possible connection to organized crime is being investigated.

In a weapon verification operation and the facilities of the Municipal Secretary of Public Security of Tonalá, authorities detained 98 individuals who were posing as police officers. The subjects were caught in the act as they were unable to prove their police function with credentials or documents, leading to arrests for the charge of usurpation of public functions.

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Chiapas reported that among the detainees are three individuals from whom firearms were seized. Two of them are under investigation, as it was discovered during the review of their personal cell phones that they were in communication to warn criminal groups about the presence of checkpoints.

The state agency mentioned that a representative of the public ministry has initiated the corresponding investigations, activating the investigation protocols for the crime. A multidisciplinary group is collecting evidence to establish the involvement of the accused in the attributed events in order to determine their legal situation.
