Judicial Suspension Granted to 'Don Rodo'

The Sixth District Court in criminal matters, under the responsibility of Juan Mateo Brieba de Castro, has admitted a request for amparo submitted by Abraham Oseguera Cervantes, known as "Don Rodo", thus granting him judicial protection. According to the judge's decision, the freedom of Oseguera Cervantes will depend on the jurisdiction in which he is detained, with the authorities responsible for his safety and custody.

Oseguera Cervantes, brother of Nemesio Oseguera, alias "El Mencho" and considered one of the main logistical and financial operators of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was arrested on February 28 in the municipality of Tonayán, Jalisco, by the National Guard. His release from prison took place on April 30, 2024, after a judge determined that he could not be prosecuted due to irregularities in his detention on April 21 of that year.

Following the release of Oseguera Cervantes, the Attorney General's Office (FGR) announced that it would appeal the decision, pointing out alleged complicities in his release and criticizing what they considered biased and inconsistent judicial criteria. The FGR emphasized the importance of judicial decisions conforming to the law, in accordance with Article 19 of the General Constitution of the Republic.

The suspension granted by the Sixth District Court in criminal matters in favor of Abraham Oseguera Cervantes includes protection against exile, expulsion from the national territory, and acts of communication deprivation. Notably, Oseguera Cervantes received this judicial decision on the same day of his detention, and his release poses additional challenges for authorities in the context of the fight against organized crime.
