An early Thursday morning, a truck carrying hydrocarbons fell from a bridge and exploded on the Mexico-Tuxpan highway at kilometer 109, in the municipality of Tulancingo, Hidalgo. This caused a major fire, the complete closure of the roadway, and the death of the vehicle's operator. Regarding the incident, the Undersecretariat of Civil Protection and Risk Management reported in a press release that, after the accident was reported, emergency response protocols were immediately activated. Specialized units were deployed to control the situation, mitigate risks to the population, and secure the area. Preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred near the bridge in the community of Santa María Asunción, close to the San Alejo toll booth, where the truck lost stability, fell from the overpass, and subsequently an explosion was recorded, followed by a fire visible for several kilometers. The Hidalgo State Public Security Secretariat stated that the Hidalgo State Fire Department attended to the fire promptly and managed to control it completely through specialized maneuvers, preventing further spread of the fire and additional risks for nearby communities. As a preventive measure, authorities implemented a total closure of traffic in both directions on the Mexico-Tuxpan highway, in an approximate perimeter of two kilometers, while cooling, risk elimination, and expert assessments to determine the causes of the accident continued. The driver of the unit was found dead at the scene, whose identity had not been revealed as of the time of this edition's closure. State authorities expressed condolences to the operator's family and confirmed that they will follow up on the corresponding proceedings. It has not yet been reported if the bridge has structural damage, while Civil Protection urged the population to avoid the area, respect the authorities' instructions, and use alternative routes, in addition to staying informed through official channels. The emergency lines 911 and 089 remain available 24 hours a day, while state authorities indicated that they will continue to issue information as official and verified data becomes available.
