The head of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), Francisco Sánchez González, revealed that the mayors of Tepeyahualco and Tulcingo de Valle have received police protection from the State Police after being subjected to recent attacks. The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) is investigating the incidents separately, as although both mayors were attacked in their vehicles, the motives for the attacks were different.

"Yes, both already have security provided by the State Police. We are working with them and, in addition, the State Attorney General's Office is supporting the investigation," said the official. The most recent attack was against Marubet Meza Rodríguez, mayor of Tulcingo de Valle, who was the victim of a molotov cocktail attack aimed at her vehicle, from which she was rescued in time. Meanwhile, Abigail Hernández Huerta, mayor of Tepeyahualco, was shot in her truck on February 3.

Sánchez González also informed that authorities from Xicotepec and Acatlán de Osorio have requested special protection directly from the agency. So far, the SSP has not received notification about the withdrawal of personnel from the National Guard, despite the announcement by the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, regarding the reinforcement of police presence at the border with the United States through the deployment of elements of this corporation.
