Volvo Buses has presented in Mexico its first entirely electric articulated and bi-articulated bus, the Volvo 7800 Electric, designed to meet the needs of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems in urban passenger transport.
Rafael Kisel, president of Volvo Group Mexico, mentioned that the company is moving towards sustainable and efficient transportation solutions to improve the public transport system in Mexican cities. With more than two decades leading the BRT segment, Volvo aims to continue promoting zero-emission mobility, reducing noise, traffic, and accidents in cities.
Anna Westerberg, president of Volvo Buses globally, highlighted the brand's commitment to developing vehicles for clean and sustainable urban transport in the long term. The launch of the Volvo 7800 Electric in Mexico is a concrete step to promote electromobility in the country's BRT systems.
The new Volvo 7800 Electric bus will be manufactured at the Volvo Buses plant in Mexico, located in Tultitlán, State of Mexico. With a lifespan of up to 15 years, a range of up to 300 km per charge, and a capacity to transport up to 300 passengers in its bi-articulated version, this vehicle represents an advanced and safe solution for BRT systems.
Equipped with Volvo's VASP 3 active safety technology, the 7800 Electric ensures the protection of vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists. With a modern and cutting-edge design, this bus reflects the brand's commitment to sustainable mobility and emission reduction in Mexico.
Volvo Buses will also offer a comprehensive maintenance contract that will include the necessary energy storage to cover the agreed distances, as well as a unique circularity model in the market. The first units of the Volvo 7800 Electric are expected to be delivered in 2026.
