Parents Detained After Abandoning Newborn in Mexico

A young couple, Diana "N" and Lucio "N", find themselves in the eye of the hurricane after being detained by Mexican authorities in relation to the abandonment of their newborn baby in public. The Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico opened an investigation for the alleged crime of abandonment and endangering the child's life.

After receiving an alert about an abandoned baby on the streets of Tultitlán, State of Mexico, on February 11, the police found the newborn in critical condition and immediately transferred him to the Bicentennial Independence Regional High Specialty Hospital. The situation shocked society after a video of the moment the baby was abandoned went viral.

Initially, Diana accused Lucio of being responsible for the abandonment, alleging that she had handed the baby to her partner for him to take to a hospital while she worked cleaning a bakery. However, the situation took a turn when a WhatsApp conversation between the couple came to light, revealing that they had planned to abandon the baby.

In the messages, Diana mentioned that the baby was still alive and that she feared he would be found, while Lucio suggested getting rid of him immediately. The conversation shows that both were involved in the agreement to abandon the child, which led to their arrest and facing charges for attempted homicide.

Lucio "N" was transferred to the Cuautitlán Izcalli Preventive and Social Reintegration Center, while Diana "N" was taken to the Tlalnepantla prison. Both remain at the disposal of a judge, who will determine their legal situation in relation to the terrible event.
